Q.
What is soy wax? |
A.
100% natural soybean wax
candles are the first new innovation in the candle industry in over 100 years.
Soybean wax is water-soluble and can be easily extracted from glass, tin, and
other material for effective recycling. The wax in
these clean-burning candles is made from vegetable oils direct from safe food-grade sources. Unlike paraffin, this wax does not contain any petroleum or
chemicals. Soybean wax is so completely non-toxic that the raw wax is actually
edible. Without color or fragrance added, food can be safely cooked in soy wax
just like any cooking oil in your kitchen. Now you have the environmentally
sensible alternative: Soybean wax for clean-burning candles.

Q.
What is palm wax? |
A. Palm wax is 100% natural plant wax that is
made from the tropical palm plant. A great natural
alternative to soy and beeswax.

Q. Soy vs.
Paraffin? |
A. The debate
continues. Kreative Kraftwerks uses soy wax for
most of their candles. Because soy wax is so
soft and would require additives to make pillars, we
have chosen to make some of our pillars out of palm
wax. Both soy and palm waxes are 100% natural.
Paraffin wax is a petroleum product. However, we
do use paraffin wax to make our "fun" pillars.
With paraffin, we are able to make rustic-looking
pillars and chunk pillars. Neither soy nor palm
wax can be used to achieve those appearances.
There are many claims out there that one wax is better
than the other; however, we believe it is merely a
question of personal preference.

Q.
Do I need to trim the wick in my candle? |
A. Yes. Any
flame has the ability to produce smoke and soot.
Wicks that are trimmed to 1/4" (1/8" for palm wax)
before each use will provide a more even and
controlled burn and will significantly reduce the
likelihood of smoke and soot. If your flame
reaches a height greater than 3", immediately
extinguish your flame, allow your candle to cool, and
trim the wick.

|
Q.
What is meant by a "mushroom" on the wick? |
A. A
mushroom-shaped mass on the top of a wick is caused by
a build-up of carbon deposits. If a mushroom
forms, extinguish the candle, allow it to cool, and
trim the wick to 1/4" before relighting.

|
Q.
Are there rules to burning a candle? |
A. Absolutely.
Safety should be your first priority when you choose
to light a candle. Burn candle within sight and
out of reach of children and pets. Never burn candle
on or near anything that can catch fire. Keep wick
centered and trimmed to 1/4" at all times to prevent
excessive flame or smoke. Do not allow wick trimmings
or other debris to fall into melted wax. For best
performance, burn until wax melts evenly across
container, not exceeding 4 hours. Discontinue use when
only 1/2" of wax remains in bottom of container or on
pillar. Never move a hot candle. Never burn candle
unattended or near a draft. Failure to follow these
instructions could result in fire hazard or injury.

Q. What is the best way to extinguish a candle? |
A. The best way to
extinguish a candle is with a
wick dipper. This
is a metal tool designed to push the lit wick into the
pool of melted wax to put out the flame. After
the flame is extinguished, use the dipper to gently
lift the wick back up. It is now wax coated and
ready for the next burn. Using a wick dipper to
extinguish a flame eliminates the smoke, smell and
splattering that may occur when you blow a candle out.

Q.
Does Kreative Kraftwerks use lead wicks? |
A. All wicks are made with 100%
natural product utilizing pure cotton or a
cotton/paper core combination and coated in beeswax.

|
|
Q. Will Kreative Kraftwerks be at any craft fairs? |
A. Yes, we will.
Most of our fairs are in the fall of the year.
Check our calendar often,
as it may change.
